Built on a rocky promontory in the vicinity of Znojmo Castle, which was also part of the chapel. After a great fire in 1335 the Margrave of Moravia, later emperor Charles IV, had in in 1338 a new church in early Gothic style Cathedral built, construction was intermittently continued until 1440. Three-aisled church with high arches, a total size of 60 x 22 metres. 17th-18th Century baroque interior, mainly from gifts and bequests by wealthy benefactors.
